Hobby pilots have to stay on the ground because of the G7 summit at Schloss Elmau. From Saturday at 2 p.m. until Tuesday at midnight, flights with visual flight rules are prohibited from flying within a radius of 56 kilometers around Elmau. The police announced this on Thursday, citing a decree from the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport.

Because of the G7 summit Hobby pilots have to stay on the ground at Schloss Elmau. From Saturday at 2 p.m. until Tuesday at midnight, flights with visual flight rules are prohibited from flying within a radius of 56 kilometers around Elmau. The police announced this on Thursday, citing a decree from the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport.

Hang gliders and paragliders, for example, fly according to visual flight rules, but so do gliders. Classic scheduled services, on the other hand, fly according to instrument flight rules and are not affected by the ban.

Restricted flight areas are repeatedly issued for the arrival and departure of heads of state and government. The zone thus extends practically from via a connecting corridor with the flight restriction area in Elmau Ingolstadt to the Italian state border and on the edge of the Alps from Füssen to Lake Tegernsee. Starting Sunday, the heads of state and government of the seven leading democratic economic powers will meet at the G7 summit.
