US prosecutors on Wednesday demanded between 30 and 55 years in prison for Ghislaine Maxwell after she was found guilty of helping the late US financier Jeffrey Epstein sexually assault teenage girls.

Last December, a federal jury in Manhattan found Ghislaine Maxwell, 60, guilty of five counts, including trafficking in minors. “(Ghislaine Maxwell) was a calculating, sophisticated and dangerous criminal who preyed on vulnerable young girls and set them up for sexual abuse”prosecutors wrote in a memorandum filed in Manhattan federal court. “Her habit of choosing vulnerable victims shows that she believed that young girls in trouble could be considered objects.“Judge Alison Nathan, who presided over the trial of Ghislaine Maxwell before she was promoted, is due to hand down sentence on June 28.

Jeffrey Epstein committed suicide in 2019 in the cell of the Manhattan prison, in New York, in which he was held pending trial on charges of trafficking and abuse of minors.
