Last weekend, the French Rugby Federation announced the reform of the Federal 3 and the transition to chickens with 6 clubs. But this Tuesday, she would have finally retracted and should soon announce the new formula for the 2022-2023 season.

According to our information, the Federal 3 would return, next season, to the federal fold, and the competition will therefore no longer be managed by the Leagues. There would be an abandonment of the reform only in this category. The hens of 6 clubs, which the French Rugby Federation had presented at the General Assembly in Bagnères-de-Bigorre last weekend, are no longer necessary. The FFR should quickly communicate by taking a base of 20 pools from 10 clubs, inter-league pools. At the end of next season, the top six teams from each pool would qualify for the finals, while on the other side, the bottom three teams from each pool would go down one tier.

To better understand the situation, it is necessary to recall the context. Next season, the divisions of French rugby will be different. Indeed, a new competition will see the light of day with the National 2, which will henceforth be the fourth division. A solution to create a new championship in order to better prepare the teams for the professional world.

And since last Saturday, the French Rugby Federation announced that a reform of the Federal 3 would take place for the coming season.

We will still have to wait to know the chickens of the Aude and Catalan clubs

For the now seventh division of French rugby, the FFR wanted to create a double-speed Federal 3 with 180 teams on the starting line. But in January, they would only be 48 to fight for the final stages of the French championship. Which would amount to playing the final phases of Federal 3 to the first and second of each group. And all the other teams would fight for the descent in Regional 1. Except that until today, even a team finishing in fifth or sixth place could be crowned champion of France. With this reform, the future of each club would have been played out over 4 months, i.e. until January (date on which some clubs would have already known their retention in this championship).

But this Tuesday, the FFR took a completely different turn and would totally abandon its idea of reform for this Federal 3. We will therefore have to wait a few more days before knowing the fate of the competition definitively and especially to know the future hens for the season 2022-2023 for Catalan and Aude clubs.

Namely that two clubs in the Aude will participate in this competition, Quillan-Limoux and Sigean-Port-La Nouvelle. As well as three clubs from the Pyrénées-Orientales, Elne-Latour-Théza, Thuir and Scar-EscBac.
