Criticism of the concept for the planned documentation center

The government’s concept for a documentation center on the Second World War met with reservations from the opposition in the Bundestag. During a plenary debate on Thursday evening, for example, the deputy leader of the Union parliamentary group, Dorothee Bär (CSU), reported a need for intensive advice. Among other things, she called for a stronger European context and criticized the lack of a memorial for the descendants of the victims.

AfD MP Marc Jongen complained about the “negative narrative” of German collective guilt. Jan Korte from the left sees some gaps, for example in the historical classification of the “disinhibited war of annihilation”.

The planned documentation center in Berlin is to show the effects of the second worldwar and the German occupation rule in Europe. Last month, the Federal Cabinet approved the concept of an international scientific working group, which must now be discussed by the Bundestag and Bundesrat.
