The good harvest achieved by Léon Marchand at the World Swimming Championships is the assurance of a nice windfall for the young swimmer.
A new swimming star is born. In line with Laure or Florent Manaudou. At only 20 years old, Léon Marchand splashed with all his talent the world championships organized in Budapest. Engaged in three individual races, the student of Bob Bowman has indeed won three medals.
In the history of French swimming
Sacred entry into the 400 meter medley, the son of Xavier Marchand, vice-world champion in 1999, followed up with a silver medal in the 200m butterfly before winning a new title in the 200m medley, making better than his father in Perth. The young Toulousain became the first French swimmer to win three medals in a single edition, joining Laure Manaudou (four medals in 2007) and Catherine Plewinski (three medals in 1991) in the history of French swimming.
Star of these world championships, Léon Marchand also carried out a great financial operation. The International Swimming Federation awards 20,000 dollars for each gold medal and 15,000 dollars for a silver medal. And the French Federation was not left out, distributing equivalent bonuses for the three medals won by the Toulousain.
In total, it is therefore more than 100,000 euros that Léon Marchand will receive thanks to his three charms. A sum that could still swell in the event of medals with the relays. Above all, this harvest of medals should allow him to attract new partners and to become one of the French sportsmen who count two years before the Paris Olympic Games.
