Muguruza chain of discoveries

Former Wimbledon winner Garbine Muguruza will arrive in London with just one victory in her legs, following her Eastbourne Round of 16 loss to Camila Giorgi.

Five years ago Garbine Muguruza won Wimbledon. This year, the 28-year-old Spanish player will not be a favorite (but who can be apart of Iga Swiatek?), far from it. She will indeed start the London Grand Slam having won only one match on grass. Beaten by Andrea Petkovic in Berlin last week, the world No. 10 was eliminated in the round of 16 in Eastbourne by Camila Giorgi (26th). The Italian won 7-5, 6-3 in 1:50 in a match with six breaks, where the two players struggled on serve (6 double faults for Muguruza, 7 for Giorgi). Led 4-2 in the first set, the Italian woke up to equalize at 4-4 and break again at the best of times, at 6-5. In the second set, this time she trailed 3-1, then took advantage of the collapse of the former world No. 1, who conceded five games in a row! It is therefore Giorgi who will face the Bulgarian lucky-loser Tomova in the quarter-finals. Also note the elimination of the seeded n ° 10 Jill Teichmann by the British guest Harriet Dart, in a match which had been interrupted Tuesday evening: 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 in 2:54 in a match to twelve breaks.
