Union: Strong wage increase for bakery employees

The employees of the baked goods manufacturer Mecklenburger Backstuben GmbH, based in Waren, will receive more money from next month, according to union information. As Jörg Dahms from the Food, Beverages and Restaurants Union (NGG) announced on Thursday, in the first round, the collective bargaining parties agreed on a gradual increase in wages by a total of more than 20 percent. After a pay increase of up to 4.5 percent on July 1, a further increase of 17.5 percent will follow on October 1 for around 460 employees. The term of the collective bargaining agreement is ten months until April 30, 2023.

“The company has thus taken an important future step towards securing skilled workers at the Waren site,” explained Dahms. He did not say how high the wage increase will actually be. In the industry, the wage level is mostly below average.

The management of the company, which claims to operate around 60 bakery cafés and shops, could not be reached for comment in the evening.
