In connection with a spectacular theft of millions in the main customs office in Emmerich more than a year and a half ago, three other suspects were arrested in Poland. Among other things, they are suspected of involvement in a criminal organization, with one of them allegedly leading the gang, the Warsaw police said on Wednesday. The three men were arrested last week.
The Polish law enforcement authorities are working closely with the public prosecutor’s office and the police in Krefeld, it said. Because of the multi-million dollar theft, four suspects were recently in Poland been arrested. According to the Polish authorities, they face up to 15 years in prison.
The perpetrators were on November 1, 2020 with the help of a core drill in the vault of the main customs office broke into Emmerich. Six and a half million euros were stolen during the burglary, which the police said was professionally planned.
The customs administration offered a reward of one hundred thousand euros for information about the crime or the perpetrators. The case was also broadcast on the ZDF program “Aktenzeichen XY … unsolved”. Nevertheless, a hot lead was missing for a long time.
