The nights of Friday 24 the orchestra italian baroque Europa Galante will give a concert in Granada at the Palacio de Carlos V and on Saturday the 25th it will perform again at the Monastery of San Jerónimo, in both cases under the direction of Fabio Biondi. In the show he will play different works of the Baroque. You can enjoy the music of Francesco Geminiani with the Concerto grosso No. 12 in D minor, La Follia and of The four Seasons of Vivaldi made of Spring, L’estate, L’autunno and L’inverno. “The four Seasons it’s a play virtuous that highlights each facet of the orchestra, is very demonstrative of its quality”, says Biondi.

In addition to director, Fabio is also violinist and in the concert he will not only conduct but play the violin at the same time. “The 19th century way of conducting was always structured in such a way that the first violin conducted and played at the same time. I am very proud to use this method. Playing an instrument is so close to each other that it makes the ensemble sound very natural” , explains the Italian director.

Biondi’s career began with the RAI Symphony Orchestra at twelve years and at sixteen he gave his first baroque violin concert at the Vienna Musikverein with works by Johann Sebastian Bach. After completing your musical formation, worked with different early music ensembles such as The Capella Reial de Catalunya, Musica Antiqua Wien, Il Seminario Musicale, La Chapelle Royale and Lés Musiciens du Louvre. “I do a lot of activity directing other orchestras, I like it very much, but what works best for me is when I direct from the violin”, says Fabio.

Gallant Europe

In 1989 the Italian director founded set Gallant European orchestra specializing in baroque music that has established itself as one of the world’s leading ensembles of instruments, with a distinctive Italian style. The orchestra has performed in numerous places internationally such as in La Scala in Milan, in the National Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome, at the Suntory Hall in Tokyo, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Vienna Musikverein, the lincoln center of New York and the Sydney Opera House. “In 1989 I founded Europa Galante. The market did not have an Italian orchestra dedicated to baroque music. The musicians are friends and I have shared the study of ancient music with them. We have done it with great pleasure. What attracts baroque music is its versatility, its fancy and his freedom. It is a music that includes a lot of improvisation, it has a very different modality from the romantic one. It is spontaneous and works very well with young people,” explains Biondi.

It is not the musician’s first time in Granada, he has been with Europa Galante but has also directed the Granada City Orchestra. “I have very good memories of the work we have done together and the relationship with the musicians. I would have liked to have worked more with them, I have very nice memories. I have a very good relationship with the public, it is like being at home” says Fabio .
